ABOUT RYDER

MOVEMENT HAS BEEN MY PRACTICE FOR DECADES.

I’m Ryder Turner a movement and strength coach, dancer, teacher, and lifelong student of how bodies learn.

I DIDN’T COME TO THIS WORK THROUGH A SINGLE SYSTEM.

My background moves across disciplines: dance, strength training, yoga, athletic conditioning, martial arts, improvisation, and movement practice.

Each has given me a different way of understanding the body. Strength training taught me about load and capacity. Dance taught me about coordination, expression, timing, and attention. Movement practices taught me to value adaptability, curiosity, and the ability to solve physical problems rather than simply reproduce exercises.

Over time, those threads became MovementART.

STRENGTH TRAINING IS ORGANIZATIONAL TRAINING.

Every exercise asks the body to organize itself around a problem: load, gravity, balance, timing, space, another person, or an unfamiliar position.

I’m interested not only in whether you can complete the exercise, but in how your body finds its way through it.

That perspective changes training. Strength matters. So do mobility, coordination, attention, adaptability, and play.

Our work together tends to be both training and learning. We might be deadlifting one minute and working through a balance problem or movement puzzle the next. We’re building strength and capacity, but also coordination, confidence, curiosity, and a better sense of how your own body works.

THE PERSON COMES BEFORE THE PROGRAM.

PAY ATTENTION
Your movement tells us something. Training starts by noticing rather than forcing.

BUILD CAPACITY
Strength and physical capacity create more possibilities for what your body can do.

KEEP EXPLORING
Bodies change. Goals change. Good training should be able to change with them.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

Movement and performance have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve performed professionally in dance, theater, and film, trained extensively as a dancer, and earned my MFA in Dance from the University of Colorado Boulder. I still love teaching movement, with classes that explore everything from ground movement and coordination to improvisation, partnering, and acrobatic skills.

Teaching movement has had a huge influence on the way I work as a personal trainer. I’m interested in strength, of course, but I’m just as interested in helping people understand their bodies. How do you approach a new challenge? What happens when something changes? How do you learn a new skill or discover ways of moving you didn’t know were available to you?

Outside of coaching and teaching, I’m a husband to Angie and a dad to our two boys, Atlas and Teo. A lot of my life revolves around family, and being a father has deepened my appreciation for movement as something we do throughout a lifetime, not simply something we do to “stay fit.” I want to be able to play, explore, travel, get on the floor, carry things, learn new skills, and keep saying yes to physical experiences for a long time.
